Open to work in the Greater Toronto Area

Rahim Ayub

Networking & IT Security student, aiming for IT support and junior network roles

I’m in my final stretch at Ontario Tech University, building a foundation in networking and security through labs, Python projects, and hands-on hardware troubleshooting. I’ve also run my own business and worked in a busy logistics hub, so I’m used to fixing problems under pressure and explaining them clearly to non-technical people.

About me

I’m Rahim, a Networking and IT Security student at Ontario Tech University, focused on IT support, networking, and cybersecurity. I like tracing a problem back to its root cause, and I build my skills through labs, Python projects, and hands-on hardware troubleshooting.

I also own Q&R Trusted Solutions, a renovation business where I work directly with clients and manage projects from start to finish. Running it has sharpened my communication, my organization, and my ability to stay calm when plans change.

I’m looking for an IT support or networking role where I can put my skills to work, learn from experienced teammates, and keep growing.

What I bring

Network fundamentals

Comfortable with IPv4 addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DHCP, and configuring routers, switches, and wireless access points.

Hands-on troubleshooting

I diagnose cable faults, connectivity failures, and misconfigurations on real equipment, then get it back in service.

Security mindset

Google Cybersecurity certified, with Python tools that work with CVE/NVD vulnerability data, and Security+ in progress.

Customer-first communication

Years of customer-facing work taught me to listen, explain clearly, and keep people informed while a problem gets fixed.

Ownership & reliability

I run my own business and handle equipment accountability at UPS, so I follow procedures and see work through from start to finish.

Always learning

I keep building skills through labs and certifications, and I’m currently working on Linux, AWS, and Security+.

Projects

Enterprise Network Design

Featured
Packet Tracer topology of a two-building enterprise network. Building 1 is the headquarters and Building 2 is the branch office, each with three access switches, two multilayer switches, and a router, and the two routers are linked by a WAN connection.
Network topology built in Cisco Packet Tracer: headquarters (left) and branch office (right).

A two-site enterprise network connecting a headquarters and a branch office, each supporting HR, Sales, and Finance.

  • Designed the full topology and configured every device in Cisco Packet Tracer, including the routers, multilayer switches, and access switches, with a router at each site linked across a WAN connection.
  • Built each site with three access switches and two multilayer switches, and connected every access switch to both multilayer switches for redundant paths.
  • Modeled a realistic office at each site with 18 PCs and 3 printers connected through the access layer.

Network Design Lab

A simulated network built to practice connectivity and configuration.

  • Designed and configured routers and switches in Cisco Packet Tracer.
  • Planned IPv4 addressing and tested connectivity between devices.
  • Practiced finding and fixing configuration errors.

Python Vulnerability Scanner

A Python tool that explores known vulnerabilities using CVE/NVD data.

  • Pulled vulnerability records from public CVE/NVD data.
  • Organized and presented findings so they are easy to review.
  • Strengthened my understanding of how vulnerabilities are tracked and reported.
PythonCVE / NVDVulnerability research

Network Health Checker

A Python tool that checks whether devices and websites are up, and keeps a record of the results.

  • Built a Python tool that checks device reachability with ICMP ping and website availability with HTTP requests, giving a quick view of network health in a single run.
  • Logs every check to a timestamped CSV report, so connectivity across multiple devices can be tracked and compared over time.
  • Tested against both reachable and unreachable targets, with error handling for timeouts and connection failures so one bad target never stops the whole run.

Python Monitoring Dashboard

A dashboard that brings monitoring information into one place.

  • Collected technical status data and displayed it in a clear dashboard.
  • Focused on making problems easy to spot at a glance.
  • Practiced documenting how the tool works.
